IMPORTANT READ BEFORE Make your Grafting Request Order
We are only able to graft twice a year, Late Spring & Late Summer.
- If we receive the order between after September 24th and before May 1st, The trees will be grafted in Spring & should be ready by the end of the year.
- For orders made after May 01st and before of September 24th will be grafted in late Summer and should be ready in the Spring following year, May most likely.
Only Once the small tree has completed two flushes of growth since it was grafted do we consider it ready to leave our nursery.
(Estimated time is 6 to 8 months. Some varieties take longer time to growth)
Bacon was a seedling planted in 1928 by James. E. Bacon of Buena Park, California.
It is thought to be a hybrid between Guatemalan and Mexican types, producing a small, light green oval fruit with very light colored flesh.
It has good oil content with a mild flavor.
The tree was recognized as having good cold tolerance and commercial traits and received some commercial plantings in California over the decades.
Here in south Florida we have found that Bacon is one of the California avocados that performs reasonably well in our soil and climate.
At one point we had two large Bacon trees growing in Loxahatchee which consistently bore good crops. Bacon?s greatest fault is that it can suffer uneven-ripening issues (particularly earlier fruits). It normally ripens from September through October here and is a B-type flower.
Race: Guatemalan
