IMPORTANT READ BEFORE Make your Grafting Request Order

We are only able to graft twice a year, Late Spring & Late Summer.
  • If we receive the order between after September 24th  and before May 1st, The trees will be grafted in Spring & should be ready by the end of the year.
  • For orders made after May 01st  and before of September 24th  will be grafted in late Summer and should be ready in the Spring following year, May most likely.

Preorder: Graft Me a 1 Gallon Tree is an order for us to produce the specific tree that we don't currently have available in stock.
We must graft the tree and then it must go through a multi-month process to heal and grow.
Only Once the small tree has completed two flushes of growth since it was grafted do we consider it ready to leave our nursery.
(Estimated time is 6 to 8 months. Some varieties take longer time to growth)

Brooks was the second important cultivar to be selected in Florida after 'Haden', and was a seedling of the 'Sandersha'  that first fruited in Miami in 1916.

It was quickly recognized for its strong production and its late season bearing habit, holding fruit in August and sometimes September.

Firm flesh and acceptable mild flavor resulted in it being planted commercially. Thereafter, it became the parent of a number of more famous Florida cultivars, including Kent, Keitt, Hatcher, Fascell and others, all of which were viewed as improvements over it and resulted in Brooks being phased out by many growers.

Despite this, old Brooks trees can still be found in parts of south Florida. Unfortunately we have found that Brooks is susceptible to bacterial spot and rot fungi, as are a number of its descendents.

We planted a Brooks tree in 2017 for evaluation purposes but topworked it after all the fruit rotted in 2018. We have left a  branch of it as a source for occasional budwood.
