Fruit Punch is a seedling of Zill-80 from the breeding program of Gary Zill in Boynton Beach, FL (planting number M-23).
Fruit Punch is oval in shape, medium sized and develops nice red blush color on the skin. The flesh is yellow, very firm and fiberless, containing a monoembryonic seed. The fruit fall under the classic-acidic/subacid flavor group and have a limited window period where the flavor is ideal. When it is on, Fruit Punch can taste quite exceptional. In other instances the flavor can be more average.
The trees appear to be good producers, but the fruit are moderately susceptible to bacterial black spot (visible in photo) and rot.
We planted a Fruit Punch tree in 2016 and it fruited in 2018. It has grown somewhat sluggishly, with vertical open canopy but has fruited consistently for us the last several years, and has become a popular variety with consumers. It is an early season mango for us usually ripening from late May through June.
Flavor: Classic Acidic
Country: Florida-USA
