This is a mango from Sri Lanka and probably the second most popular mango in that country after Karutha Colomban.
It is known for being able to fruit in wet areas mangos don't typically do well in.
The fruit are small, oval-oblong and turn greenish yellow to dull yellow at maturity. The flesh is orange, fiberless and contains a polyembryonic seed. It has an Indochinese-type flavor.
We obtained a tree in 2017 and it fruited in 2020. We have since determined that Vellai Colomban is the same mango as the Egyptian 'Hindi Bessenara', and we speculate that it was probably introduced to Egypt from Sri Lanka many years ago.
