Lorito

Lorito

0,00$Prix

This mamey was selected in the Yucatan region of Mexico and was cultivated by Eduardo Marin of the Oxkutscab area. Lorito means "little parrot" in Spanish and it received its name from a local individual who had a reputation for talking a lot. It was brought to the United States by the Zill nursery in the 1970s and introduced to the collections of Fairchild and the USDA among others. It has received limited propagation since that time within the Florida nursery trade.

The fruit are medium sized and oblong in shape. The flesh is soft, non-fibrous and deep red in color, normally only containing a single seed. It is an exceptionally fine variety with very rich, decadent flavor.

The tree is a good producer and has a moderately vigorous growth habit with somewhat open canopy. It is a summer mamey typically in season for us from June through August.
