Often spelled ?Pancho?, this avocado is a pure Mexican type from Texas, where it is considered ultra-cold hardy, reportedly surviving temperatures in the mid to low teens.
The tree has been a vigorous grower with small dark green leaves. It is an early season fruit maturing in summer from June through August.
The fruit are small and pear shaped, turning light green with some light red/purple blush at maturity.
The skin I quite thins and frequently forms cracks on the bottom and the earlier harvested fruit can have uneven ripening problems.
Properly ripened Poncho fruit are well flavored though and have good oil content.
The tree flowers early and produces B-type flowers.
