IMPORTANT READ BEFORE Make your Grafting Request Order

Preorder: Graft Me a 1 Gallon Tree is an order for us to produce the specific tree that we don't currently have available in stock.
We must graft the tree and then it must go through a multi-month process to heal and grow.
Only Once the small tree has completed two flushes of growth since it was grafted do we consider it ready to leave our nursery.
(Estimated time is 6 to 8 months. Some varieties take longer time to growth)

We are only able to graft twice a year, Late Spring & Late Summer.
  • If we receive the order between October 1st  and May 1, The trees will be grafted in Spring & should be ready by the end of the year.
  • For orders made after May 01st  and before of October 01st  will be grafted in late Summer and should be ready in the Spring following year, May most likely.

This sapodilla originated in the Homestead, FL0 area, and was named after a long-time RFCI member, Silas Wood. It has sometimes been mis-spelled in the nursery trade as 'Silas Woods". The original tree still stands to this day.

The fruit is quite small, round-to-oval in shape and only weighing a couple ounces on average. The flesh is non-gritty and has superb eating quality and flavor. They normally have several small slender seeds.

The trees are very slow growers and have a dwarf-like speading habit, rarely requiring pruning. They are self-pollinating and *highly* productive, so much so that fruit may require thinning at times to relieve branch loads and improve fruit size. They usually produce both early Spring and Fall crops but sometimes have 3 crops per year. For these reasons, Silas Wood makes a terrific dooryard variety for home growers in Florida.
