- If we receive the order between after September 24th and before May 1st, The trees will be grafted in Spring & should be ready by the end of the year.
- For orders made after May 01st and before of September 24th will be grafted in late Summer and should be ready in the Spring following year, May most likely.
Only Once the small tree has completed two flushes of growth since it was grafted do we consider it ready to leave our nursery.
(Estimated time is 6 to 8 months. Some varieties take longer time to growth)
Sunrise was a Jakarta seedling from the breeding program of Gary Zill in Boynton Beach, FL (planting # 25-28).
The fruit are oval-shaped, medium-sized, and turn a yellow-orange color with green background at maturity. The flesh is yellow, fiberless, firm, and contains a monoembryonic seed. The flavor is very rich, resinous, and spice-noted, comparable to Bombay and Jakarta, very much belonging in the Indian/West Indian-flavor group. Sunrise is one of our favorite varieties to belong to this group!
The trees are very vigorous growers with upright growth habit and dense canopy. They seem to have good anthracnose resistance and fruit well in Loxahatchee, possibly being a good alternative for people wanting to grow Jakarta or Bombay under more humid conditions.
Our tree has been disease-free though and we eventually added a second Sunrise tree to our fruit program.
It is a mid-season mango in Florida ripening from late-June through July.
Flavor: Indian/West Indian
Country: Florida - USA
