Zill O-15 was a seedling of Jakarta from the breeding program of Gary Zill in Boynton Beach, FL.
It is a medium-sized mango, ovately shaped and turning yellow at maturity. The flesh is fiberless, yellow, and firm. The flavor excellent, though can be highly resinous, reminiscent of Jakarta but probably sweeter, belonging in the Indian/West Indian flavor class.
The original tree is productive, but the fruit tend to ripen in a very short span, only a couple weeks.
We topworked a tree into O-15 in 2017 for evaluation. In 2019 this tree flowered and set fruit well, but did not retain any of its fruit to maturity. It finally fruited well in 2020 and had multiple crops. The tree has fruited each year since. Fruit quality has been inconsistent, with some specimens being outstanding and some being washed out. O-15 tends to have physiological issues with stem end rots and large anthracnose spots on the top of the fruit being a problem. We are hoping this will be less of an issue as the tree gets older.
Flavor: Indian/West Indian
Country: Florida - USA
