The J.B. 2 is another mango from mango enthusiasts Jenny and David Burd of Naples, FL. The initials stand for Jenny Burd.
We don't know much else about this fruit but planted a tree in 2016. It has been a moderately vigorous groweer with spreading growth habit and open canopy, with long internodes between the leaves.
The fruit are very large, oval shaped and stay green even at maturity. The flesh is fiberless, very mild and classically flavored.
The tree took a very long time to flower, finally producing a single fruit in 2021 that split open on the tree and rotted before it could ripen. In 2022 it produced a fairly complete crop, and almost every single fruit split open and rotted. The flavor of the intact fruits was so unimpressive that, coupled with its splitting and diease issue, we elected to immediately top-work the tree.
