This mango is a seedling of East Indian from the breeding project of Gary Zill in Boynton Beach, FL (planting # L-24).
It strongly resembles East Indian in flavor and color, but was thought to have less problems than its parent in south Florida. The shape is more oval than oblong and it is on the small side in size, weighing well under a pound each. It can be juiced like East Indian, but is also consumable as a sliced fruit despite fiber content, which isn't anywhere as considerable as its parent. The flavor is rich in spice and terpenes, and very aromatic as well, very much an Indian/West Indian type of flavor.
We planted one in 2017 in the hopes that it would do better than East Indian has for us. It first fruited in 2019 and has fruited well every year since. It is a mango that deserves more attention than it has received. Lady's Choice is any early season variety here in West Palm normally ripening from May into June.
Flavor: Indian/West Indian
Country: Florida - USA
