Oro Negro
IMPORTANT READ BEFORE Make your Grafting Request Order
Deadline for Spring 2023 Orders is September 30th/2022.
A grafting request is an order for us to produce the specific tree that we don't currently have available in stock. We must graft the tree and then it must go through a multi-month process to heal and grow. Only Once the small tree has completed two flushes of growth since it was grafted do we consider it ready to leave our nursery.
Orders will be grafted later this year, and should be ready in the Spring or Summer /2023.
All the requests made after September 30th 2022 will be grafted this late spring, and it wouldn’t be ready until Fall, maybe October or November 2023

Oro Negro is thought to be a complex hybrid, possibly holding genes from all three major avocado races.
It is speculated to be a cross between Monroe and a Mexican type, and was discovered by commercial grower Mike Hunt in his grove in Homestead, Florida in 1989.
The fruit has the elliptical shape of a Monroe, but turns black as it reaches maturity.
The flesh is yellow-green, with a creamy texture and a delicious rich nutty flavor. It is probably one of the best tasting of the Florida avocados.
The tree?s production has disappointed us thus far but we have harvested some fruit from it and hope for better productive seasons as it ages.
Oro Negro matures in fall and winter here.
The tree is a vigorous grower and produces B-type flowers.
