Taylor is a pure Guatemalan-type, and was a seedling of ‘Royal’ from California planted at the USDA’s facility in Miami, Florida in 1908.
It produces pyriform shaped green fruit that are considered good quality with reasonably good oil content.
They mature in winter in south Florida from December to January.
Taylor saw some limited commercial planting in the state at certain points of the 20th century but never caught on as a major cultivar here.
Taylor trees are vigorous growers, possess some cold hardiness and produce A-type flowers.
