Sometimes spelled Dusheri or Daseri, this mango is from northern India where it is extremely popular and grown on major commercial scale. It is also grown commercially in Pakistan.
It is considered one of the best of the north Indian mangos and has a unique citrus-type flavor reminiscent of the Burmese Po Pyu Kalay (aka Lemon Meringue), with whom it may be closely related or share a common ancestor. It has an oblong shape and is yellow at maturity.
Dasheri is a relatively recent introduction to Florida and reportedly fruited poorly at Fairchild Farm in Homestead. In Florida the fruit have a tendency to develop small and under-sized, but the eating quality is still very high.
Our tree was planted in 2018 and has grown rather slowly thus far. It finally fruited for us in 2024. We feel this mango may have a better chance of producing in climates with cooler winters such as central and west-coast Florida and certainly southern California.
