Named for Dr. John and Susan Dupuis, this avocado originated in Miami, FL and was actually patented in 1965.
It is a pure West Indian type and is one of the finest flavored of this group and possibly our favorite early-season avocado. The fruit are green, medium sized, with a pyriform shape.
The flavor is quite rich and buttery.
Dupuis used to be grown on some considerable commercial scale in Dade county but lost favor to newer cultivars like ‘Simmonds’ and ‘Donni’ due to inferior production; however, the production is more than adequate for backyard growers.
It is not a cold hardy tree, having similar cold tolerance as a mango.
Dupuis produces A-type flowers.
