Ewais is from Egypt, originating in the area near the Suez Canal and was named after an Egyptian minister. It is a small, ovate-shaped yellow fruit with a fiberless flesh and exceptionally sweet flavor that surprises those who have never tried it. The seed is polyembryoic.
The tree is non-precocious, and takes a while to start producing. It has a medium vigor, upright growth habit and may struggle to flower in the climate of south Florida. When it does flower though it sets a lot of fruit and makes nice crops.
Ewais is a mid-season cultivar and ripens mostly in July.
