This mango is probably descended from Irwin and was selected by the Zill family of Boynton Beach, FL over 40 years ago.

It’s a small-to-medium sized fruit, ovately shaped and turns a brilliant red color well before maturity, making harvesting sometimes tricky for those unfamiliar.

The flesh is yellow, with flavor that is very, very mild and in the classic group.

Jewel is early-season and ripens from June to July. The tree has a low rate of growth and spreading habit. Though it is precocious and produces well, we have found it very susceptible to bacterial black spot and rot fungi, and have cut the tree back to be topworked.
