This mango is from Sri Lanka, where it is very popular and known for fruiting under wet tropical conditions. We have seen it spelled Karthi Kolomban and various other spellings also.
The fruit is oval shaped, fairly large in size and turns yellow at maturity. The flesh is yellow, fiberless, and has a mild Indochinese-type flavor.
We obtained a Karutha Colomban tree in 2017 and planted it to evaluate its flowering habit. The tree fruited for the first time in 2020. It has been a very vigorous grower with dense vertically orientated canopy. We found the fruit to have too many splitting issues and combined with low demand, we elected to top-work the tree in 2023, maintaing some of the original canopy to still be able to graft trees from it.
Flavor: Indochinese
Country: Sri Lanka
